"Sittin' and Thinkin' of You"

It's time for another Sunday card challenge over at Stampin' Sisters in Christ Challenges today! Our hostess this week is Helen Phelps who has chosen this verse to share:
Matthew 18:4 "Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven."

And her challenge for us is to make a card with an image of a child or childlike things on it (such as a card with toys or a saying about children), but not a baby card! I encourage you to come over to the challenge blog and read all about it and see our Design Team's creations!

I used this cute little girl stamp called Melissa, which is from the Pretty Little Things collection by Jessica Grundy (only available at McMahon Five Designs.) I used Copics to color her, and watercolored the background, light Amethyst. The wood paper behind the circle is called Teak wood (also available at McMahon Five Designs). Those who know me know that I am in love with this wood paper! And the sketch I used is from this week's KLSNS Challenge (it ends next Saturday night so come on over and try it! There's prizes this week!)

Woodsy Friends Birthday Wishes

About My Card:

I used this cute High Hopes stamp called Canada Friends, which had a maple leaf on the flag... but I made it more universal by cropping out the leaf with tape and hand wrote the Happy Birthday sentiment. Aren't these woodsy animals so CUTE?!!! Love them!

A Sweet Act of Kindness

I got this very sweet Tilda easel card in the mail today from one of my bloggin' friends who's near to my heart and never far from my thoughts, Diane LaPointe. This gal just loves butterflies as they hold a very special meaning for her, (feel free to ask her about it), and so whenever I use butterflies on my cards I think of Diane and here she goes adding the cutest li'l sparkly (double-layered even!) butterflies to this sweet tilda card. She also sent a li'l package of cute light blue pearls--my faves! Thank you so much for brightening my day today Diane!!

I just finished a card today and will be posting it in the morning, so I hope to see y'all again tomorrow! *Ü*

La-La Weekly Wednesday Challenge

Good morning friends!! First of all, I just want to say THANK YOU for all your comments about my birthday blog candy! It's only been one day since I posted it and I've recieved so many comments already! It's so nice to know how many of you DO follow my blog and you have such wonderful things to say. I am blessed a hundred times over... thank you! (ends Feb. 12th) *Ü*

And now for this week's La-La Weekly Wednesday Challenge, No. 23!
(I'm having so much fun with these girls that the cards practically make themselves! )

Our hostess this week is the very sweet and talented Kim Yu, who came up with a fun card style for us to try... a Gift Card Holder! There's lots of different styles out there... take a look on our challenge blog for more ideas and links to tutorials and come play along with us!!

For my card, I started with an piece of double-sided DP that was 11" x 5.5" and scored it in half first (at 5.5") and then scored each end at 4.25" and then folded accordian style. I ran the whole card through my Cuttlebug with the Top Note die to get the base shape and then I folded the outsides together and I used my Labels Nestabilities die to cut the top portion of the inside flap. Then, just taped the spines and spine sides togther and whala! Oh, and the ribbon wraps around and can slip off.
I used the newly released stamp called Love Note Rosie along with some gorgeous velvet ribbon and prima flowers that Irina sent me in my DT package--thanks so much Irina!! She really is generous and so sweet and easy-g0ing. In fact all of the girls in LaLa Land are just a happy bunch of friends... I just love being on this team *Ü*

My Birthday Blog Candy

Vintage Digi - Playing Phone

Hello *Ü* It's time for a new card challenge at Stampin' Sisters in Christ Challenges! Our hostess is Peggysue who shared with us this verse:

1 Peter 1:23 (NIV) "For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God."

For this challenge, since most seeds come up as tiny green shoots, use the color green somewhere in your creation, not all over green, just a touch somewhere.


I recently discovered some great new digis over at McMahon Five Designs! These are vintage images that have been re-illustrated for better "digital stamping" quality. This one is called "Playing Phone" and is only $2.00 (USD)! These take me back to when I was a child. I still have my baby book and a few cards that were given to my mother when I was born, and they resemble this image I've used on my card. There's just something special--and charming about the "olden" illustrations. I watercolored this image and used paper from the Sugar Rush collection, from KL Stampin N' Scrappin.

Happy Birthday Kathy!

Today is Kathy's birthday, one of my fellow DT members at La-La Land Crafts so we're doing something special for her birthday! Elena (our Birthday Coordinator) thought of a great idea... instead of doing a regular blog hop, we're doing a little WALK OF FAME! Elena has posted several of Kathy's LaLa cards over on the challenge blog, and the DT are honoring Kathy's crafty talent by going into her gallery (or blog) and picking a card to C.A.S.E. (Copy And Share w/ Everyone) on their own blogs. There's so many awesome "Kathy" creations to choose from, but I chose the card at this post.

I think I pretty much got the same design elements on there, although you'll see the difference in the border punch, the colors and DP, my flower embellishment and image, of course. I did not "distress" anything, which is one of Kathy's trademarks, nor did I even come close to case-ing her coloring, so I just made it in my own style. Sometimes ya just gotta know what to leave to the PROs! *Ü*

Layers of Color Birdhouse Gift Box

Good Morning!! It's Sunday and that means another fun challenge is up over at Stampin' Sisters in Christ Challenges *Ü*

Our hostess today is our sweet southern belle, Candace (of "Candid Candace"). I love the scripture she chose for this week...

Joshua 24:15 "As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord."

The challenge is to create a card or project focused on the "home." For example, a housewarming card, or decor for the home.

I've mentioned before that I love birds and I have a collection of birdhouses. In fact, my hubby made me a special shelf above the entrance to our kitchen and added some lattice wood behind it so I can set my collection of birdhouses that he and the girls buy me on special ocassions on. So when I read the challenge to create "decor for the home" I was all over the birdhouse idea.

I recently came across Stampin' Mindy's blog post where she made this cute lantern gift box! So I ran with that idea, made a few changes to suite my purpose and here it is!
Pardon the quality of my pictures. My dd knocked over one of my photo tent "natural light" lamps while it was on and it broke. So some of these I had to set up on the shelf to get enough light and it turned kinda yellowish :(
The black-looking circle behind the bird is actually acetate so you can see the gift inside.

Here is the box with the lid off.

and here is the underside of the lid. The base of the box and the base of the lid is made from 4" coasters that I covered both sides with my newest pad of Mariposa glittered Designer Paper. The red "box" is then attached under the top coaster and will fit snug inside the box.

Here is the side of my box. (I am in love with this Mariposa paper pad, did I mention this yet?)
Here's a better picture of the paper inside. I lined the inside back with this teal butterfly paper, and I cut a small square of the many little butterflies to fit down in the bottom of my box. That hides all the c.s. tabs.
To decorate my box, I used my favorite stamps from Layers of Color: Backyard Birds and Merci Bouquet. You can't tell from the pictures, but after I watercolored the images I added clear stardust gellyroll pen to highlight the flowers and leaves. I also cut a piece of brown c.s. and rolled it up and glued it to the front for the birdy to stand on. And lastly, added the verse from this challenge on my fence (Martha Stewart punch).

Happy 'Appreciate a Dragon Day'

Talk about wild and wacky holidays, huh? But we didn't make it up! No sir-y! But it IS fun to use wacky holidays for a card challenge, which is just what Joanna did for this week's challenge at KL Stampin N' Scrappin! Her challenge is

use images of dragons, or create a texture on your card that might resemble scales etc.

There are lots of great Cuttlebug folders out there that could work for this! But... if you don't have any dragon images or cb folders, then why not hop over to Dustin Pike's blog?!! Dustin is famous for his drawings of dragons...very CUTE ones I might add and I believe he has offered free digis of them on his blog too!

In case you didn't know, Dustin Pike is a new artist for High Hopes Stamps!! WOOOHOOO! Praying for Haiti

The recent earthquake in Haiti is, to say the least, sad and heartwrenching. My husband got word today that there is no water supply in Haiti right now and many who are trapped will die from thirst alone. Many are raising awareness and offering ways to help. Amongst those are my nephew, who's in the Navy. He just got home from Iraq a few short weeks ago and was there to see his first child born about a week ago. Now he's going to be taking supplies to Haiti soon, bless his heart. Please pray for him and for his wife, Misti as she is still recovering from birth and dealing with a newborn by herself.

Please also pray for those in Haiti right now... for families of loved ones who died, for those who are trapped, and for those who are providing help. If you have been financially blessed and would like to help, please click on the picture above to go to our KLove, our Christian radio station and read how you can help! If you don't have the means to help financially, you can help in a big way by praying. I also heard some very encouraging stories about children singing in the park over there in Haiti that could be heard from the filming of news anchor Katie Couric. She seemed confused as to why there was singing going on, but we know that even in tragedy, there is a reason to rejoice and have HOPE!

Spiral Pop Up Tutorial

Good morning *Ü* As you can see I've been a very BUSY girl! I've made 2 tutorials this week and posted to 3 different blogs yesterday, but I'm enjoying every minute of it. One of those postings was at KLSNS. Every Wednesday we have what's called "Stampin N Scrappin With..." {insert DT name here}, where a different DT member will share a tutorial of some sort, and yesterday was my turn. So now I'm going to share it with you here. It's called a Spiral Pop Up card!
(here's the inside!)
You may remember my butterfly spiral pop up that I did a couple weeks ago. These are so easy that you prolly don't even need a tutorial, but if you're like me, I learn best by either pictures, video or watching somone in real life, so here it is!

1) The first step is optional... add DP to the inside of your card:

2) Cut a circle, can be any size, but not too small out of cardstock that matches your background color. I've used dark pink here.

3) With scissors, start cutting your circle into a spiral shape, making sure you keep the size consistent.

4) Roll up a glue dot (or half of one) and put on the under side of the end of your spiral as shown.

5) Place your spiral on bottom half of your card, closer to the outer edge. Add another glue dot to the top center section of your spiral. Close your card and press down.

6) Open up card and see your spiral base.

7) Punch out whatever shapes you want to add. I used my heart punches, but you could also use butterflies, balloons, stars, flowers or whatever.

8) Again, roll little glue dots up and stick the glue along various spots on your spiral. Then attach your shapes and... Wha La!!

Wasn't that easy?

So, for my card deets, I used this week's KLSNS Color Challenge, PINK/BLACK/NEUTRAL- it goes through tomorrow night (Friday at midnight!) and we'd love to have you enter! I chose this Bittersweet paper (Basic Grey) because it has those colors it in. And the stamp is called "Love Bandit" and is by High Hopes. Kelly just added lots of new HH stamps to the store yesterday so head on over and check em out!

Reverse Tent Topper Tutorial

I recently got my SOTM from Paper Pretties called Bubbletime Sophia and so did my sister Kathy, so we challenged each other to ink her up and post today! Here's what I made... a "Reverse Tent Topper" card!

It's Your Day, Spoil Yourself Silly!

I saw this card of Charmaine's in the Paper Pretties Gallery but couldn't find any tutorials for this reverse tent topper using the Nesties. So, I thought I'd make up my own and show you how I did it.

Instead of the tent "Topper" being attached to the front panel, I cut half the scallop out of the front base of card and so when open, it flips up. The scallop piece is actually part of the inside of card! There may be a much easier way to do this, but I tend to make everything harder than it has to be (I'm not too clever! *wink*). But here's a picture tutorial of how I did it:

1) Start with a folded card base2) Open it back up. Then, I'm going against the grain on your "normal" sandwich with the plates on this next part, but there's a good reason--you have to be able to SEE where you're putting the die w/o taping it to your c.s.!

3) Layer according to my "recipe" on this next picture, making sure you put the mat up to the fold line, and the mat should be on the half closest to YOU. 4) Run your layers through HALF-WAY until you feel the mat. It will all of a sudden get very hard to keep turning the handle. STOP! 5) Unwind and pull out your cardstock. You'll see that it cut only half your card! 6) Fold in half and your scallop will "pop up" giving you the "Tent Topper". Decorate as desired.

Here's a photo of the inside of my card. I added Crystal effects to the "bubbles" to make them wet, and of course lots of BUBBLES (dew drops)!! Thanks for stopping by! SSCC #21 Broken, But Pieced Together

Good morning my stamping friends *Ü* It's time for another Sunday Challenge at Stampin' Sisters in Christ Challenges! Our hostess for this week is the super talented Pamela of Pamela's World of Scrap. Pamela is a wonderful scrapbooker and even hosts a scrappy challenge on her blog, so if you dabble in that, please go pay her a visit! You'll be glad you did! Pamela chose this verse to share today:

Hosea 6:1 "Come, let us return to the Lord. He has torn us to pieces but he will heal us; he has injured us but he will bind up our wounds."

You may be thinking some of these verses we pick sound strange or you might question why someone would choose that to inspire a challenge? I urge you to click through to our SSCC Blog to read further about the verse that our hostess chooses as most of the time there she has shared her thoughts and insight on it.

CHALLENGE:
The challenge is to make the broken look beautiful...create a mosiac, or tear apart and stitch back together. In some way have your image look broken.

Ok, so I cheated a little and made my background look beautiful by piecing it together instead of my main image, but I was determined to use this digi by Designed2Delight, who's having a challenge of her own and I wanted to get in on it. If I pieced the image you wouldn't be able to read the words which would defeat the purpose of using that particular one. Soo... LOL! (did you get all that?) I think it still counts.

I thought about this verse before I created my card. God does allow us to go through trials for various reasons, but always mends us when we're broken. It reminds me of the Footprints poem which I recited to my girls this week. A friend of mine gave them each a silver bracelet with the words inscribed "When you saw only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you." She asked them if they knew what it meant and they said no, so it gave us the perfect opportunity to share with them the story and share some insight into the meaning of their bracelet. It was neat to see the lightbulb go on and with a smile hear them say, "Ooooooh! That's cool!"

What's Pink n' Black & Cute All Over?

Why, Miss Kiki La Rue of course! And she's here to tell you all about today's Challenge at KL Stampin' N Scrappin'! Good morning friends! I'm Miss KiKi La Rue! Pardon my attire, but today's Saturday which means I get to enjoy my coffee and lounge around all day in my robe and slippers. And while Kristine is busy cleaning out the garage and doing laundry, I'll be eatin' my bonbons that Shana gave me, maybe read a good book, and of course chat with all my lovely visitors today! (She did mention we'd prolly be having visitors today, so I put on my sparkly pink earrings, just for you!)

Kristine and I love sparkly things, as you can tell! She added lots of stickles to the flowers on the background. She also used this week's sketch challenge at SCS, but instead of putting me on a square I asked her if she'd cut out an oval instead. The scallops match my trim on my robe, heehee!
